Nicoles Gigue was written for the daughter of the composer. The piece, for alto saxophone with piano, is modal, based on an aeolian scale. The Gigue is in a typical 6/8 meter with a scottish snap. The slow middle section in 4/4, is based on a quote from Nicoles Aria as well as the second theme of the first section of this piece. With the return of the dance, the piano accompaniment is embellished to provide more energy leading up to the coda. |
