Erik Schultz Trumpet and Organ Series
REJOICE GREATLY, O DAUGHTER OF ZION from "MESSIAH" by G.F. Handel Arranged by Erik Schultz
Two famous airs from one of the best known Christmas pieces are
elegantly transcribed for E-flat trumpet and organ. The organ score is very
playable but with full sonorities to fill the orchestral parts. The solo
trumpet can therefore float above performing the lyric soprano lines.
Rejoice contains optional ornaments as heard on the album Music for Trumpet
& Organ Volume 2. The beautiful He shall feed his flock is a guaranteed
crowd-pleaser with the simple long phrases and clear harmonies. The
arrangements are ideal for playing at Christmas church services or at
weddings. Rating: Medium

SUITE HEROIQUE by G.P. Telemann Arranged by Erik Schultz
An immaculate collection of Telemann pieces compiled from various works,
this is one of the best recital and wedding suites there is. The pieces
are quite short and range in difficulty from easy to fairly difficult.
Beautifully packaged with trumpet parts in C and A piccolo and reasonable
and idiomatic organ parts, this music is approachable by everyone. All of
Mr. Shultz's ornaments found on the album Music for Trumpet and Organ
Volume 3 have been written in full and the organ ornaments have also been
included. Trumpet players have been playing various arrangements of this
suite for years but finally there is a complete arrangement finished with
indicated organ solo movements and melodically interesting trumpet
ornaments. This is a true classic in the trumpet and organ repertoire. Rating: Easy-Difficult

SOLO No. V by J. Stanley Arranged by Erik Schultz
Also found on Mr. Schultz's recording entitled Music for Trumpet and
Organ Volume 3 is this Solo by John Stanley. This is a brilliant
transcription with colourful organ ornaments and superb piccolo trumpet
passages. A beautiful Adagio starts the four movement work and flows into
an Allegro with long scalar passages by both trumpet and organ. The middle
Adagio is borrowed from Solo IV and the final Gig has a spectacular opening
with the trumpet entering on a high D! Excellent idiomatic organ writing
combined with trumpet flourishes, this has become a standard on the Schultz
and Overduin tours. Rating: Difficult

CONCERTO IN D by T. Albinoni Arranged by Erik Schultz
Found on Erik Schultz's critically acclaimed Music for Trumpet und Organ
Volume 2, this Concerto by Tommaso Albinoni is a spectacular showpiece for
the piccolo trumpet. A beautiful piece of music combined with Mr. Schultz's
flawless interpretation has made this piece a standard on the various
international tours of Jan Overduin and Erik Schultz. The Allegro opening
provides opportunities for Mr. Schultz and Mr. Overduin's brilliant
ornaments to augment Albinoni's writing. The melancholy Adagio allows the
soaring trumpet line to entwine with the various registrations of the
organ. The final Allegro is truly the highlight of the piece and Mr.
Schultz has extended the final section to allow for a breathtaking finale
taking the soloist to the last figure which ends on a high D concert. All
the soloist's ornaments have been carefully notated as they appear on the
CD. Rating: Difficult

This bold and exciting new work was commissioned by the trumpet and organ duo of Erik Schultz and Jan Overduin. Premiered in Germany, this three-sectioned work explores colours and textures available to the trumpet and the many stops on the organ. Contrasting sections, soloistic material for both players and interesting chromatic writing make this an excellent addition to the repertoire.
