Concert Band and Wind Ensemble

The tradition of the wind band has developed in several directions. Military bands have remained intact as concert bands, brass bands and wind ensembles continue to grow in popularity. These ensembles have gained recognition for being both interesting and versatile. The EASTMAN WIND ENSEMBLE is the most famous of the current wind ensembles. The beauty of this size of group is that with only one player to a part it has a more chamber ensemble sound, with 40 or so players, than what is known as the concert band, which can have as many as 150 players. This wind setting has some real potential to win over audiences as much as chamber string groups have for centuries.

Eighth Note Publications now has RealAudio sound files of the concert band songs for our customers to preview before purchasing. You must have RealPlayer to be able to listen to the files.

Catalogue Number:CB2029
Cost:$50.00 (score - $12.00)
Difficulty:GRADE 1

GRADE 1 1/2

GRADE 2

GRADE 3 1/2
Duration:1:05 per version

Over the years there have been surprisingly few arrangements of the national anthem of Canada. This version is quite unique and will prove to be extremely useful in all kinds of performance situations. This is not an arrangement for only one difficultly level, it is for four! There are four versions found in everyone's part:
  1. Unison - this edition has been transposed into a comfortable range for all players.
  2. Grade 1 1/2 - in this version the melody passes through several sections in a very playable arrangement.
  3. Grade 2 - more complex moving lines are introduced.
  4. Grade 3 - this utilizes fanfares in the trumpets and places more range and technical demands on all players.
All these versions are in the same key and use the same basic harmonies which means they are all completely interchangeable! If you have an excellent trumpet player in your grade 1 1/2 level band, she/he can play the next version up and it will all fit together and sound great! This revolutionary concept means that elementary schools and high schools can own the same set and combine players for a mass band concert. This set of arrangements is ideal for any program no matter what the diversity of talents.

See our "O Canada" Series page for more versions of Canada's national anthem.
