Aria for Winds is based on Glen Gillis earlier composition, Nicole s Aria for alto saxophone and piano - dedicated to his daughter shortly after she was born. In the Aeolian mode, Aria for Winds incorporates some subtle dissonances within a hollow open fifth harmony. Haunting melodic lines combined with colorful percussion writing make this a terrific concert or contest piece.
